Nat - Brandon Regional Library

We LOVE our local library. We go there frequently to print and watch movies. I have signed my mom up for tech help. I enjoy the adult coloring sessions and wish I could attend them more often.
Shout out to the Temple Terrace Library. My teen attended their interviewing tips workshop over the summer. In August he landed his first job interview and was hired! He was seen reviewing some of the handouts from that workshop (snickering).

Abby - New Tampa Regional Library

Living within walking distance from the library as a kid, I have tender memories of spending many an afternoon loading my basket with books to take home, and my mom gently reminding me that it would be rather difficult to carry so many items back. As I got a bit older, I read and re-read every Nancy Drew book I could get my hands on, hoping every visit that a new one might have floated its way over from another branch. Many years later, I’ve written college, medical school, and now medical residency application essays in the library, studied for board exams, caught a bit of AC in the lobby mid-run, and truly grown up within this space.

Meghan - Temple Terrace Public Library

I've lived in Temple Terrace my entire life and the Temple Terrace Public Library has always been a very special place for me. It was my go-to study location during college. I always pick out board games, DVDs, and music (when available) from there. It's fostered such a loving community and I will always support the TTPL!

Aubrey - Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library

After encountering a traumatic event, I turned to books to help me escape daily life in a healthy way. I'm so grateful to have a place to go to for quiet, calm, relaxation, and endless discoveries. I feel relaxed and at ease in there for hours at a time, and knowing there's no financial expectation of me is also a big relief. I'm grateful for this opportunity every day.

When our little family first moved to Tampa we had no family or friends here and I was a stay at home mom. The library was our hangout, our safe space. When we weren’t used to the heat but needed something for my 2 year old to do the library kept me sane and her busy. We have now built a wonderful community here and some of that community we met at the library storytimes and play times. When I had my 2nd daughter and she had walking delays the library was always the only place outside of our home she would attempt to take steps. I still don’t know why to this day but I feel she knew this was a safe space, a comfortable space, a space where everyone belongs.

Since I was a child the library has been a place of comfort, learning, and adventure. I remember the thrill of going to pick out library books with my mom and attending classes on various topics. I still remember a song I learned in a belly dancing class I took at my local library almost 2 decades ago. Whenever I move I get a library card and visit my local library. I also love the Libby app that the library partners with and as a teacher I love the resources available for students.

The library has been a semi-quiet escape for the kids and I. Since tackling homeschool this year, my kids and I use the rooms for school work, I’ve taken some interviews, and the kids are learning to read with the books we check out almost daily at max weekly.

I've enjoyed being able to participate in their activities, learning about flowers and animals, and being able to use all the different things they provide. They support my reading, they provide a spot for anyone that needs the space to learn, and to grow personally or professionally.

Steffen - John F. Germany Public Library

Getting a library card from John F. Germany granted me access to the hundreds of hours of audio books I've listen to through Libby! I love listening to the books while going for runs around the Tampa Bay area.

I am an ambulatory wheelchair user with chronic pain and books is where I find escape. I love being able to go to the library and interact with the friendly staff and get more books. It's one of my absolute favorite places to go

Joy - Bloomingdale Regional Public Library

I tutor and lead ESL conversation groups through the library’s Hillsborough Literacy Council at Bloomingdale and Riverview. I’ve met so many people and made so many international friends… and that has enriched my life beyond measure! I experience the beauty of other cultures without even leaving Hillsborough county! The library provides a comfortable, safe, and welcoming space where people can make friends, get help finding jobs, learn English, and connect with neighbors. It is truly the best resource for building community. And all for free to the public! People from around the world share that their home country’s libraries do not even begin to compare to ours.

JaChé - Bruton Memorial Library

I graduated from college and was taking a gap year full of studying for the MCAT. Bloomingdale and Bruton location provided me with so much more than just a place to study; it provided resources as well. Finding a full-time job has been challenging; thus, being able to check out 2026 -2027 MCAT prep materials was truly a blessing. It not only was a financial saver but also gave me more resources for the MCAT. I truly am thankful for the HCPLC!

Attending baby time classes starting when my son was around 8 weeks old really helped with my postpartum depression and anxiety. Just being able to get out of the house was so helpful for me. Now my son is 21 months and already at 500 (logged) books in the 1000 books before kindergarten challenge!

The library has given me a place where I feel safe. In this world with so many unsafe places the library means safety and peace for me. Peace lies in safety and at the library I receive both. I’m grateful for my public libraries.

I ♡ my library! West Tampa branch is my favorite for picking up books, DVDs, and printing documents - 10 free a day! When I was unemployed I came to the library to update my resume, and even did a virtual interview from a private downtown meeting room on a moments notice. The staff was so helpful in getting me set up, and accessing the free WIFI is so easy. I also value Hoopla for audio books. When I have a question I know I can pick up the phone and someone knowledgeable will quickly answer, assist me swiftly, and with ease. Thank you HCPLC! How do I leave you in my will?!

Working from home, job hunting, and finding a third space to do it in is never easy. Jimmie B Keel branch and their staff give me the space to take on life! I love the resources and continuous help available. The book selection is just the icing on the cake.

Chelsea - Town 'N Country Regional Public Library

This library is so close to my apartment, it’s super convenient to get to! It’s super easy to go after work and pick up my book or books, and the used bookstore is awesome! Being able to pay at the most $2 for sometimes brand new books is the best and I love being able to support the library any way I can. I love buying books but being able to rent them for free and having this safe space to go to is so important for everyone!

Sophie - Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library

She expanded my horizons. She took me around the world. She created a safe space. She offered a shoulder to cry on. She changed the trajectory of how my mind thinks.
My librarian. Trish.
She goes above and beyond for me, and for other patrons. For me, she made sure I got a study room and beamed motivation into me when I lacked it. For Larry, she made sure he had the resources he needed. A warm place to sleep. And even which free showers were available that week.
She listened to me when I told her what novels I loved. And she opened my world to international stories, allowing me to travel through time and across oceans. To Japan during WWII, to Italy pre-WWI, and everywhere in between.
Her recommendations are integral. They pull me outside of my own mind. They build empathy. They teach lessons that stay with me long after the last page.
She has also beautifully crafted a collection of letters. Marking sympathy, congratulations, and graciousness. Each one thoughtful. Each one meaningful.
She is a light. And she will connect people, inspire them, and ignite a love of life in everyone she comes across.

The library is my third space. In high school, I voted for the first time at Jan Platt. In college, I borrowed recipe books for months on end so I could learn how to cook and bake. Since college, the libraries have been my gateway to new – new authors, new movies and series, new skills, new crafts. Every week I utter “My library has this cool new – ” to someone. The librarians are always warm and helpful, a balm for a painfully shy person. And on difficult days just entering one of the branches provides solace.

Demi - Brandon Regional Library

I always loved reading as a kid and I always devoured books faster than my parents could buy them. I fell back in love with reading again in my 20's and decided to get my library card during the pandemic. Ebooks and audiobooks got me through lock down, pregnancy and the newborn trenches. Now I share my love of reading with my daughter who just got her own library card for her 5th birthday!

Leena - Temple Terrace Public Library

I don't come to the Temple Terrace Library too often, but when I am going to visit it's one of the things I look foward to most! I love seeing the massive bookshelves with soooo many options, especially since reading is my favorite hobby. When I got my personal library card, I felt so proud and accomplished and was so excited to tell everyone. I also loved going to the art and play table as a kid!

Brittany - SouthShore Regional Library

The HCPLC’s extensive graphic novel and manga collection got me back into reading after years of barely reading. Working from home, I have read countless library books when work is slow and it has given me something to look forward to each day. I appreciate that most of the time, if I request a book, it will be added to the collection. The library has a very easy to navigate online catalog and the hold system works great. I appreciate the kindness of the staff and I love that my local library has a recording studio. I am a musician and I used the studio to recording a song for my friend’s wedding.

Bruton and Jan Platt Libraries always brighten my day because I enjoy seeing young children with their parent(s) clutching onto their books and speaking excitedly about whatever event it is the library is putting on for them. The library is now my second home, I started going back to help family and local students with tutoring but then fell back in love with reading. Now I benefit from so many of the amazing resources like free printing for my classroom and home needs, exposure to new content, very supportive staff, and a great environment for people of all ages. I literally go 3-4x a week and can’t imagine being anywhere else.

We love our local libraries! Our kids love of books has grown significantly since going to our library consistently for the last couple of years. Their reading proficiency has improved in school as well. We also love the activities offered monthly for their age groups. We went to all the summer reading programs this past summer and learned so much. We are grateful to have such a great resource space for our community.

I still remember the first day I visited the SouthShore Regional Library. It was just a few days after I received my Mother's Day gift – a Kindle. My primary reason for visiting was simply to create a library account and get a library card so I could read free books on my Kindle.
Little did I know that I would be greeted by the kindest staff, who took the time to tell me about all the wonderful benefits the library had to offer, especially the children's programs and events.
Since May 2024, my two children and I have visited the library every single week – sometimes multiple times a week. The staff are incredible. The children's programs are amazing. And, perhaps most importantly, my children and I have met some wonderful friends since moving to the area.
The library also helped me rediscover my love of reading. What started with a Kindle and a library card has grown into a meaningful part of our family's weekly routine. My toddlers have naturally developed a love and habit of choosing and reading new books each week, and they're even on track to read 1,000 books before kindergarten.
Seriously, we love our library. It has become so much more than a place to borrow books – it has become a special part of our lives and our community. We are incredibly grateful for the staff, programs, friendships, and memories we've made there.

My wife and I are retired folks who have plenty of time on hand to do things we enjoy doing - one of them is visiting the nearby Library. I migrated to US fifty years back. One thing that always surprises and makes me happy is the availability of Public Library in various cities that I had lived so far. Visiting Library in USA is a dream come true. At Maureen Gauzza Library, the Librarians are very helpful and attend to our questions in a professional and pleasant manner. My wife enjoys reading the weekly magazine while I browze through new additions. Only thing that makes me sad is the number of people who are not using the library!

I could be described as a FLU: Frequent Library User. Over the years I’ve frequented many but Jan Kamari’s Platt has won my heart. Not long ago I received a phone call from the kindest voice advising me that a note “ that I might want to save” had been found in a book that I had returned that day. Indeed, it was a cherished note from my sister. Oddly, not thinking of that note, I’d wondered earlier if I’d checked the books for an ersatz place keeper. I’m still touched by this act of kindness. Who’s to say our world is rushed and uncaring? Go to the library and find a book - and a friend!

I have been going to this library for almost 40 years! When my children were little I would bring them in to check out books, learn something at an event or just experience the pleasure of being at a library. The librarians have always been pleasant. A world of reading and books transformed my life and theirs by opening up knowledge, understanding and even creativity through reading.

I love my library card and the fact that I can take out books whether I am 2 blocks or 2,000 miles away from home. And being a notorious procrastinator, I no longer have to worry about due dates, because Libby returns it automatically on the due date! And don't get me started on the mixed media available for use or the research I can do from the comfort of my own home. Next year, I plan to expand to include some book club events...can't wait! My mom started taking me to this library at least once a week over summers when I was 6 years old. It became a mother daughter date adventure and we would bring a bag to fill with books to check out. But we would also stay and browse and read for hours. I vividly remember sitting on the big stairs going to the second floor and devouring every Encyclopedia Brown book they had and could get one summer. I love the Brandon Regional Library especially because I will always associate it with lazy days reading, finding a thirst for consuming books, and letting the act of reading be an adventure itself. The love of reading has followed me into adulthood and the library is where it began.

Moving here over ten years ago and knowing not a single soul, this library was my life. I went every week as my big event outside of my office to check out a book or use the computer. Even now, I know I can get work done in a quiet, clean area.

I used to read a lot as a kid. Growing up things got rough and life got to a point where I hadn't read a book for pleasure in years. Moving to the Temple Terrace/Tampa area and reconnecting with the library here has brought great joy into my life and has helped me to grow in ways I never thought possible.

I have been a member of the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative for three years, and the library has made a meaningful difference in my life. Over the years, I have borrowed many books instead of purchasing them, which has helped me save more than $1,500.
I also regularly visit the library’s book sales. I love finding great books at affordable prices and often purchase them as birthday gifts for my friends. It has become one of my favorite ways to share my love of reading with the people I care about.

Then the site was renamed LinkedIn Learning, and I learned that through our Public Library, I could access this resource free of charge. It changed my life, as I have been able to take many courses that would have been impossible in the past.

The Temple Terrace Library is where I borrow books and films, take a class, print copies, and ask a question about my iPad. It is also where I vote, buy books at the sales, pick up free books and donate books.

There are sooo many ways that the library has transformed our lives! Sometimes I walk into the library and am incredibly thankful that this plentiful resource exists.
When I had my daughter Ava I started bringing her to storytime at just a few months old. She would look around at the other children and see the different colors.
Then when she was old enough to walk she would enjoy playing with the musical instruments and listening to the stories.
It wasn't long before we excitedly sat with the summer programming list and mapped out where we would go for plays, animal shows and more. I couldn't help thinking how AMAZING it is that our library offers a cool space to make so many wonderful...

I am 77 and have had continuous library cards for 72 years. At 5 I received my 1st card at the Public Library 2 blocks from my home in Hammond Indiana. My first action with every move I've made has been to get my new state Driver's License. My 2nd has been to get my newest library card. So far, in addition to my 1st I've had cards in Louisville & Lexington KY, Topsham Maine, Mt. Vernon Washington, and Tampa Florida. I anticipate getting my last card in November when I move to Charlotte North Carolina. Reading has been my passion and joy from the first book I read. I go nowhere without a book. As a child experiencing abuse in my home, the library and books were and are my safe haven.

Some of my sweetest childhood memories began at the library, and now I get to watch my son create his own. ❤️
I started taking him to storytime when he was just three months old, and now at 3½, he still loves toddler time and has developed a genuine love for books.
I grew up spending summers reading and using the computer lab at the library, so seeing my little boy discover that same joy feels incredibly special. Watching him choose a book before a screen reminds me that the small things we do as parents can make a lasting difference. The library has helped plant a love of reading in his heart, and I hope that love continues to grow with him for the rest of his life.

I've been a library member for over 6 years and have had an opportunity to attend several events over the years. I am a big e-reader though and have already read 75 books through Libby this year! Sometimes I visit different HCPLC libraries on the weekends just to be around physical books and talk with the staff. They have also been helpful whenever I need to print or fax something.

Of course I loved the library when my kids were little! But I am rediscovering the library as an empty nester. I recently attended an Intro to Sewing class and a sewing makers session. I loved the calming silence with books on shelves surrounding me waiting for me to pick which adventure I wanted to go on for the day. I grew up in Ybor City and early on found out that I loved reading. The Ybor Library was one of the few places mom would let me go to alone and I always came home with a stack of books. Reading became such in intregal part of my life that I am now a published author and when I speak at schools, I credit my teachers, the school librarian and the Ybor Public Library (Now the Robert Saunders Library).

My dad brought me to the library regularly as a child, along with my 5 siblings and i had a passion for reading. Not only did I enjoy reading, but learned the responsibility of caring for books and returning them when due. I continue my love of reading at Jan Kaminis Platt Library, where I conveniently hold books online and pick them up when ready. I professionally taught reading and became a reading specialist in Ohio and Florida!

Ellie - SouthShore Regional Library

I am an adult reader becauase I am a lifelong deaf/hard of hearing person. I could not hear or understand words until I was 50 years old until I received hearing aids. Even then, they didn't help me that much, because my brain didn't know what vowels were and much of what words were. I didn't like reading books when I was young but with help from my parents & siblings, I learned over decades of time to understand some of the English language. I went to school for 22 years to learn education, nursing, business and life. While I can't hear very well and still wear aids, I read everything around me so that I can make up what I lost all those years ago.

Our local library has been amazing! I go with my son constantly and keep nourishing his reading interests! I didn’t realize how much money you can save on books and streaming by using the library resources. When we go - I also print anything outstanding and I really just am so grateful for the resources. We’ve been going to the library for years! I grew up going to the Brandon location. My son spent his baby and toddler years at the baby time / toddler time at the old Riverview (location that got shut down) and now we use SouthShore all the time. Thank you.

The library has always been a special place for my daughter. She loves exploring the shelves, choosing new books, and getting lost in different stories. Every summer, she happily participates in the summer reading challenge, which has encouraged her to read more and discover new books. I often find myself busy and unable to sit and read a physical book. But thanks to audiobooks on CD and the Hoopla App offerings by HCPLC, I am been able to continue to be engaged in my favorite pastime.
I have also participated in numerous free classes where I’ve learned about gardening, arts and crafts, dance styles, computer literacy, and our national parks.
Most recently, I was able to get free tickets to a couple of Florida Orchestra concerts.

I cannot imagine life without my library. This goes for all libraries. I grew up going to libraries from California to Colorado to Florida. I am now on the board primarily to protect what I am passionate about. Libraries go beyond books to resources for families, young people, elderly people, people down on their luck, and 40 year old ladies like me. I went as a child and now as a mom, I bring my kids to explore or participate in activities. I tell everyone about the library and what they have to offer. It is shocking people do not know there is way to get laptops, GoPros, puzzles, free newspaper subscriptions, books, ebooks, audiobooks, etc. I think it is important to educate people more.

I got my first Library card when I was 3. My mother took me to the library and put me in the children's room with an OZ book. By the time I was five, I had read half the books in that little room. Miss Cooper the librarian always called by my whole name, Judith Ann, every week when I got to check out a book. 87 years later, I have never been without a library card.

I am disabled and the library classes are a free and accessible way for me to socialize and engage in fun and creative activities! I have a small collection of things I’ve made from the classes; paintings, a chainmail keychain, a Japanese kumihimo braided bracelet, needle felted animals, an embroidered greeting card, a linocut stamp, and calligraphy.

Carlos - Seffner-Mango Branch Library

I have been going to this branch for 30 years. Nicest folks in the world. They ve helped to light my fire for reading. The library is a treasure for book lovers. I have read hundreds of books about history, music, biographies, fiction, children's books, science fiction, etc. I discovered 19th century Russian literature at the SMB branch. If you want to fight off sad and negative thoughts read Dostoyevsky, Chekhov, Turgenev, Gogol. It's simply unmatched in world literature. I love it.

I have not been going to this branch long, a little over a month. I go to the North Tampa Library 2-3 days a week and homeschool two of my children there. It is always clean and the staff are pleasant, kind, and always helpful. I really like this branch.

I have been a Hillsborough County Public Library card holder for over twenty years! When I first graduated college and could barely pay off my student loans I used my library card to check out movies, cds, and books for free. The printer services are extremely affordable so I have used the library to print resumes for job interviews or print driving directions before cars had gps systems. I have attended many of the library’s free classes including story time when my boys were toddlers and now stem classes now that they are older. The library card offers more than just books: go pro cameras, museum passes, even book delivery by mail! We love our library!

Montgomerie - Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library

I grew up going to the Jan Platt library. I was a voracious reader, which made trips to Borders or Barnes & Noble particularly fraught for my parents’ wallets. The library was a place of wonder where books stretched as far as my little eyes could see and I was allowed to check out as many at a time as I could carry, and then some (my little sister usually helped me by carrying the second pile). The library was also a safe haven, quiet and clean, where I could escape into the stacks and learn new things while getting lost in new worlds. As an adult the library is still one of my favorite places to go, get lost, or sit and work, and to just exist peacefully.

This summer, joining the library’s summer reading program transformed our family routine into something truly special. What started as a fun goal for my seven-year-old quickly blossomed into a heartwarming daily ritual that brought our whole household together.
Every trip to the library became an exciting quest. My daughter took her reading challenge seriously, carefully selecting stacks of colorful comic books and beginner readers. But the magic really happened when we got back home. Instead of reading quietly by herself, she took on the role of storyteller for her little brother.
Our library gave us more than just books, it gave us a sweet bonding connection between siblings and parents!

One of my absolute favorite library memories isn't tied to a single moment, but to the specific, quiet magic of a rainy weekday afternoon spent in the deeply tucked-away stacks of my city library.
Outside, the rain was tapping a soft, steady rhythm against tall, arched glass windows, blurring the bustling city street into streaks of gray and yellow light. Inside, the world slowed down completely. The air had that unmistakable, comforting smell—a blend of aged paper, worn cloth bindings, and cedar floorboards.
Tucked into a plush, slightly worn leather armchair between the dense rows of history and poetry, time seemed to stretch. There was no rush, no notifications pinging just me and my book.

Amanda - Austin Davis Branch Library

I used to volunteer at the Austin Davis library when I was a teenager for scholarship hours, 20 odd years ago. I loved organizing the shelves and reshelving returned books. I especially loved volunteering while Miss Janet was working. She introduced me to authors like Julie Garwood, Lisa Kleypas and Julia Quinn. I already loved reading but she just expanded my world even further. Thank you Miss Janet for everything you did for me, and Austin Davis library for giving me a place to escape for several hours.

My branch, Jan Kaminis, is more than a book depository, I frequently check out books but to me it is the service that stands out. The people at the desk are ALWAYS so helpful, not only in the lending area but also in answering any questions I have and helping me with computer problems that I have. It is ALWAYS a pleasure to be there.

I moved from the panhandle with no connections, no friends. I was finishing grad school and was worried about my next step in life. I spent a lot of my initial time decompressing at the library. The library has been a place for me to connect with the community (both directly and indirectly), to escape inside a good murder mystery, and to explore reference books to help me narrow down my next professional endeavor. The library really means a lot to me, as a student, transplant, and a new member of the community.

I work for a pharma company. When COVID happened, I started working from home. We were insanely busy experimenting with numerous antiviral formulas to see if they would be effective against COVID. I was working around the clock. It was stressful and a bit lonely. I started checking out tons of DVDs and audiobooks just to have something playing in the background. Sometimes the librarians who brought the DVDs and CDs out to my car were the only people I saw face to face (mask to mask) that day. I’ll always be grateful for the way HCPL adapted to continue serving the community during that strange and scary time. Thank you.

We visit the library typically every two weeks. My kids (ages 5 and 7) get to pick out anything they want. We typically leave with 15-20 books. They love Vooks, which I enjoy when I'm not available to read to them but don't want them watching TV or on tablets. They've discovered graphic novels and my daughter has been drawn to biographies. We've read the entire Dragon Masters series together. My husband and I enjoy access to audiobooks. Our ability to download books saved us when we went on vacation and couldn't accommodate the additional weight of the kids' books - we were able to download new stories onto my iPad for bedtime and rainy day story time. We love the library!

We had SO much fun at the library this summer! 📚☀️ My boys and I made fairy gardens, met reptiles, watched an amazing balloon-making show, made kites, and even got to do hands-on science experiments with MOSI. The library gave us so many opportunities to get out, explore, learn, and make memories together—and turned an ordinary summer into one full of exciting adventures. My library has truly transformed my life, both for myself and my family. As an avid reader, I've been able to discover books I love without the cost adding up, which means I can keep reading as much as I want. But what I appreciate most is what it's done for my kids, our Lutz library has a dedicated kids' area where they can play, color, and explore their own books. I had a library card for as long as o can remember but i never found myself using it until this past year when i realized i could check out audiobooks and listen from my phone. I was working at a job i absolutely hated and felt like a really dark time to me so to distract myself i started checking out audiobooks to listen to while i worked and i had no idea that one idea would take me on the ride that it did! I love listening to audio books I’ve listened to almost 200 since i first started. I realized that i could focus more on audiobooks and got to experience books and stories i never imagined i would! I’m so happy to have this access. It honestly means to world to me!

Growing up I would go to soccer practice after school and then walk over to Austin Dais library to wait for one of my parents to pick me up. I loved that Austin Davis had a great selection of Manga, which I was really into at the time. Now, I am a huge fan of the library and all of the services it provides. I use it weekly to host meetings, print, check out physical and audiobooks, request new books, use the interlibrary loan system, attend classes, and check out tickets to local attractions. The library is the public's most vital resource for education and access.

Brandon Library has been part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. My mom and grandma began bringing me here every week when I was just two years old, and more than 20 years later, I still visit on that same regular schedule, with just as much excitement about picking out a new stack of books as I had growing up. Those weekly library trips helped shape my lifelong love of reading and, eventually, my desire to become an educator and help children discover that same joy. More recently, the library has even become part of a new chapter in my life. The Friends of the Library book sales have been an incredible resource as I’ve worked to stock my Little Free Library inour neighborhood.

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge became much more than a reading goal for our family. Through 1,000 books, we watched our son’s vocabulary and language skills grow tremendously in both English and Spanish, while teaching him the value of consistency and perseverance. I am a person of limited income with PTSD related agoraphobia. I started attending classes at the Seminole Heights branch in 2024 as part of working through my trauma and trying to feel comfortable in places outside my own house.
Recently I have also had the opportunity to attend classes at other branches as well. This email is particularly about the Seminole Heights, North Tampa, and West Tampa branches.
I have genuinely never had the pleasure of interacting with so many incredibly kind and empathetic presenters- be they librarians, library tech staff, master gardeners, or outside experts. Literally everyone I have interacted with has been incredible.
As a person of limited means, I am able to access electronic content for free, take free art, plant, and science classes, and interact with strangers in a space where I personally feel safe. Without the library my life would be so bleak, but that’s peanuts in comparison to how these classes and the library staff have helped me address and work through my personal issues.
I am worried that choices being made to benefit the very wealthy will affect services like the library. I’m writing to ensure that the folks in charge of the library system know how much your entire department and staff have improved my life.
I wish there was a more formal system for accolades but I hope this message reaches folks who need to see what the library REALLY accomplishes in the community.

I’ve lived in many states and have used their libraries. NONE compares to HCPLC. You have outstanding physical facilities (except maybe the main library downtown). Your online offerings - including access to digital services - keep up with technology. Drive-through pickup is a major convenience. My favorite feature is seeing on the checkout receipt how much I save by borrowing rather than buying. The highest compliment I can pay: HCPLC is the best use of my property tax dollars. You are my best value.

There is an incredible selection of books for our toddler, who has enjoyed reading books since birth. We were reading together about 10 minutes a day at birth but now (at 25 months) we easily read 35-45 minutes every day, with our daughter "reading" parts of it to us. The children's section has plenty of natural light as well as a play area that has allowed her to release energy while I rotate our books. There is a patio overlooking nature that we have also enjoyed. The staff has always been courteous, knowledgeable and professional. We have attended story time, performances, and other events within the library system and look forward to using additional services available as time passes.

I regularly use the Borrow by Mail for books and DVDs, OverDrive for ebooks, Hoopla for ebooks, music and movies, and Kanopy on my TV. I have also used the Suggest an Item for Purchase and I am happy to say that many of the items that I have suggested have been purchased. The library system has made many improvements over the years adding a multitude of resources online and free printing in the libraries. I want to express and note my gratitude to the County Library Cooperative, and especially to the Inter-Library Loan Department. Your online catalogue has been like a treasure hunt for me in browsing for reading and video materials. What I am not able to find is graciously available through ILL.
Recently I have had the experience of receiving a book that was difficult at first to locate. It was apparent that it was a challenge to find, but the staff did not give up. The volume was obtained from a small college library in Iowa. I deeply appreciate the perseverance in providing this service. I have enjoyed the book immensely, and have shared its insights with others in my study group.
At the same time, I want to applaud the staff for finding and providing quick service to several other requests. I have been surprised often with the prompt delivery of a submission. Both the online catalogue and WorldCat are very user friendly.
The service provided by the entire staff of the Cooperative is what I want to salute. I am a retired person on a limited income. I cannot afford to buy books. But I am able to continue to be an informed citizen and neighbor through the commitment of our local government to the principle of a free library system.

>New to Riverview 3 years ago, the library was one of the first places we visited. Not having known the area or the people, the library instantly felt welcoming and a place we quickly became acquainted with. The beauty of the library itself, with the family friendly vibe makes it a great weekend activity. My daughter has grown so much as a reader and in her social skills because of many hours spent reading books, and playing at the Riverview library. We love story time and I will forever cherish the time we’ve spent here creating memories.

I wanted you to know how much that I appreciate and use the Library now in my retirement years.
It fascinates me how reading a book on one subject refers to other people, places, ideas, and things which are also compelling topics. That sometimes leads me to read about some of those referred entities. One thing that I have learned is that each author writes from a unique perspective about various ideas, events, or imagined characters in a context or framework. So, lots of times when I read, I am asking (in the back of my mind): “If the author was here in the room, what would he or she say about the story/topic.”
I don’t necessarily read as fast as a lot of readers, but I really strive to understand and process what I am reading in a way that pulls it all together. When I was young, I used to worry about not reading fast, but now, that is not a worry because I am always eager to read on and see "what will happen next”.
My parents used to say that, “The more you know, the more you know what you don’t know.”
In conclusion, thank you for the Library system and facilities.

Since moving to Tampa in 2011 I have been impressed with the Hillsborough Library and the ease of reserving on line and then picking up at my local library. My twins were not reading yet even at 5 years. Then I came across the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge. We started around 5.2 years and in just 7 months my twins have ready more than 1000 books. Their life is changed, they love reading books now. It is not surprising for me to find them tucked away in one corner of house and reading a book between themselves. Their day starts with reading a book and finishes with one as well. I can see colossal improvement in the vocabulary and knowledge as well. From first man to the moon to doctors visits and festivals. The large selection of books at the library has made it all possible. Thank you Hillsborough County for providing these resources.

I wanted you to know how much I appreciate HCPLC public library in my retirement. I read [ from so many of ] your books and novels because there are so many interesting topics and stories. When my friends talk about one of their interests or discoveries, I often read more about it in HCPLC.

When I was a boy, I was not an enthusiastic reader because it was so difficult for me. I read slow. But now, without the pressures of "being graded" when I read, I can relax and read for pleasure. In fact, I often find myself reading 2-3 of your books concurrently. I have learned that a person can go through a short period when they are more interested in fiction rather than non-fiction, and vice-versa. Sometimes I like to read one long historical novel; other times I like to read short stories, or brief non-fiction. 'Must be that way with all readers.

It is amazing to me that everyone who has a skill, knowledge, story, or message to share can write books that often end up in the Public Library for everyday people like me to read.

It’s such a nice bonding experience taking trips to our local library. I let my kiddos pick out their favorite books and play educational games on the computer. They especially get motivated with the summer challenges. I didn’t know about the 1000 books before kindergarten but we are now aiming to achieve that as well.

In 2019 my best friend and I both became 1st time moms. While looking for activities for our boys we discovered "Baby Time" with Philip Bloom at Riverview Library. It quickly became our favorite weekly outing. We had fun listening to the stories, singing, and dancing with our little ones. Mr. Philip always made sure everyone "put on their listening ears, and had a bubble in their mouth" before starting a story or rhyme. We still use those tools with our now 3 year olds when it is time to pay attention.

I went first, in person to the Riverview branch and the gentleman I spoke with was very helpful. The online process was fairly easy, even for a novice like me, and within a few minutes I was checking out an Agatha Christy audiobook (my Mom's favorite). For 3+ years I have become a library regular and continue to feel extremely fortunate to live close by. Since that first visit, I have 'saved' $7,798.37 by borrowing publications. I depend on the library. Favorite section is 'New Non-Fiction'. I can spend significant time browsing through current books, benefit from exposure to new authors & ideas & come away enthusiastic over my next read. I love 'large print'; the reliable and helpful staff and choose library time over almost anything else; it's a best friend!

Audrey was first introduced to the storytelling craft five years ago through the HCPLC Storytelling program under the amazing talents of Windell Campbell. Ever since her second year of two under Windell she has been chosen as a Storytelling Ambassador for the HCPLC program. Since then she has worked on her craft along with others under the guidance of the storytelling program from the local homeschool group HATT (Homeschool Around Temple Terrace) and was selected as a recipient of the Virginia Rivers Youthful Voices Scholarship for the Florida Storytelling Festival in Mt. Dora, FL. In 2020 she was selected as one of only 18 Youth Storytellers from around the country to participate in the National Storytelling Festival in Timpanogos, UT. Due to Covid the festival was virtual but she was excited to learn that she was selected again this year to attend as a youth storyteller, time in person! This whole journey began because of the great programs offered by the HCPLC and the library continues to serve as an invaluable resource for our homeschool program and many others like it around the county.

It lasts long in the memory and even if I pick a few books today I have already in my mind the next ones to grab whether I finish the already borrowed ones or not. Access to learning resources, the computer, internet, meeting rooms etc. is the need of the time. I see young kids playing video games at the library computer which in my opinion is true learning because that is what I used to do when I was a kid too. What the kids get here is exposure to learning which is essential for growth.

Getting a library card in the mail and the Overdrive app for my phone, I have been able to listen to 23 audiobooks in the past 8 months! I have only finished 3 paper back books in the same time. Being able to listen while I work remotely and go on walks has helped me with my goals to read more, become more informed on topics, and to pass the time while staying safe this past year. The selection is wonderful, I found almost everything I searched for or similar books easily, and holds are easy if it is in use by another customer. The app is simple to use and you don't have to drive anywhere, it doesn't take a lot of memory on your device, and it holds your place if you need to answer a call.

I grew up across the street from my library, there several times a week; my safe place away from abuse at home. The 2nd floor was children's area. Kids didn't get adult cards or access to the adult section until in high school. The librarians knew I'd read every book in the children's department (some multiple times) by the time I was 11. They gave me my adult card and access to the adult 1st floor - Nirvana. Books and reading were and continue to be my passion. I not only like what's in the book, I like the feel of the book and turning the pages so I haven't moved onto a reading device or books on line. When I buy a house next year I want to live close enough to walk to the library again.

I am so impressed by the perseverance of library services during this health crisis. Using the library is both a privilege and a pleasure. It is as vital to me as groceries. I am especially grateful for the abundant online resources. I greatly appreciate all the library staff who are working so hard to maintain our excellent public library.

I have always loved reading. This summer, the online library was an extremely important asset to me. With many places closed due to Covid-19, the online library provided me with many books available for me to read on my phone. I was able to track my reading with Beanstack and was lucky enough to win a pair of Beats Pro Solo wireless headphones for the activities and reading that I completed. The online library is a wonderful asset that everyone needs to checkout!

Ever since I was a young girl, the library has always been a part of my life. My mother would take my brother and I weekly, and I am positive that is why I have such a love for reading and for bringing my own children there ever since they were born. Being a military spouse, finding the nearest library and obtaining a library card was always one of the first things I did, even before I had children of my own. After kids, it became part of our lives every week. Between all the fun activities and programs that are offered, they loved being able to walk around and look at different books and pick out which ones they wanted. I will forever be a library lover!

The summer of 2012 I was unemployed and my son was 7 years old. One Saturday we walked into the library and picked up the summer program guide and it forever changed our lives. So many free wonderful programs to choose from like magic & animal shows, cooking classes, STEM classes and even circus shows. My son and I went almost every day and we library-hopped all around Tampa to be able to participate in all the programs. Those are special memories I will forever hold dear to my heart as it marks a time when I was able to really bond with my son. He is 14 now and he still brings it up. So many friends and family members would ask me about it. The library rocks!

Libraries have always been a sacred space to me. When I walked into the Riverview Public for the first time in 2011, I was newly married, living in my second new city in 6 months, and 2,500 miles away from home. We had no money, a baby on the way, and the morning after we got here I said, "Take me to the library. I need a library card!" Over the next several months, we used the library computers to search for work and prepare to become parents for the first time. And for the last 9 years, the library has been a safe space to take my kids to explore, to take myself for quiet time, and to tackle school work as I earn my very own Bachelor's degree in Library Science. We love our library!

Taking my granddaughter to the library since 2017 has been a positive experience for both of us. This is the first year of participating in the summer reading program. I love libraries because they're full of books. There is at least a few books for kids of every level and grade. There are different genres, such as adventure or mystery. All books are exciting and fun to read for specific readers. And, every time a book seems a bit bland at first, I tell myself, "At least a part of this book must be good. A book wouldn't be published if it wasn't." Rarely any books are not exciting, as long as you make sure the book you pick out is fit for you. Sometimes a book that seems like the most boring book you ever read can turn out to be the best book you've ever read. Books make you smarter, and they're fun to read! So start reading!

My library story began when I was four years old. I went to my home town library with my mother many times to sit quietly and read (in those days talking in the library was shooshed!). The best part of the visit was taking home the books I was allowed to check-out. In 1961 the library held a summer reading contest. I don't remember exactly how I got registered for the contest that I ended up winning. I read more books than anyone else in all the other age categories. A total of 106 books! I've never succeeded in reading that many books in a summer again, but I certainly keep trying!

Everything I ever wanted to know is found in a book! I always got a library card & took my daughter, grandson and children whom I babysit to the library. My grandson Devin Christopher Hamilton loved going to the Library & became an artist. He won several awards for “Angels Watching Over Me, You & Us.” He had an opportunity to exhibit his work at the Bruton Memorial Library in Plant City, FL (our hometown). It is a great place to visit & very resourceful learning environment. Knowledge is Power!

[Due to temporary job relocation we lived in Japan] and our daughter attended Japanese Public School while there. Her HCPL card enabled her to download and read English language books, access the library databases and more. We loved living in Japan but also LOVE our Hillsborough County Public Libraries. When my 10, 9, 7, and 6 year old children where younger we would walk down to the Port Tampa Library once a week to see Mr. Frank for story time. For me libraries should be synonymous with literacy, economic growth and culture. My two favorite libraries in Hillsborough County are SouthShore and Riverview. Been coming to the Riverview because in recent weeks because my 10 yr old lives in Riverview. I had a question about a book by Gordon Neufeld and this time I was helped by Supervising Librarian Karen Slaton. She told me about the new new Library coming as well as the 2019 Library of the year Award to my attention. There is a vibe in this place and it spells, love, care and genuine one-one Customer Service like Publix. To the folks that fund the library please take a visit for yourselves.

Every two weeks I check out 20-25 books for my kids. We snuggle in bed and read them every night. We have explored fiction and nonfiction. We’ve talked about history and important events like slavery and 9-11. They can ask whatever questions they want and we laugh and sometimes cry together. We have been faithful goers to story time with Mrs. Janet at Jimmie B. Keel. We started going when my my son was 1, he now is 5. Mrs. Janet always goes over the chart of skills and tells us how these are skills tested in school. Sure enough, my son was tested on them this year and did wonderfully except for one category. I told Mrs. Janet about his results and she was proud and immediately pointed me to the books that could help my son improve in the area he was not so great at. It is almost the end of the year and my son is excelling in every single category. We are very grateful to God for resources like Jimmie B. Keel and wonderful librarians like Mrs. Janet.

In 1996 I contacted the library inquiring on programs to read to the elderly. At the time there was not such a program. The librarian suggested the library literacy program for non native speakers. I was matched up with a gentleman from Cuba. He spoke very little English and at the time I spoke very little Spanish. Through the resources of the program, television, Russian and the human spirit he learned to read and speak English. Together we have assisted others to read and speak English. Thanks to this literacy program many lives have been touched for the better. Thank you HCPL.

The HIVE at John F. Germany Library served as a beautiful proof of concept for our belief that library makerspaces can serve communities in new & meaningful ways. HCPLC's willingness to take the lead in developing the area's first large scale public library makerspace 5 years ago helped set the stage for other libraries throughout Tampa Bay to follow suit & provided a fantastic proving ground for concepts I've since explored and expanded upon in two books, Makerspaces in Libraries and Library Makerspaces: The Complete Guide, both of which feature the HIVE and the great librarians who make it possible.

I just got back from living in Ethiopia, Africa for the last two years thanks to the Peace Corps program. To come back to a library full of books & more was like a dream come true. We all here in the USA do not realize how lucky we are to have full access to so much knowledge at no cost at all. This is something we take for granted here but does not exist in many other parts of the world. I hope the library continues to thrive as it provides so many opportunities for all of us here of all ages and interests. I hope that more of us can participate in the library and in doing so strengthen our communities.

My story starts with my oldest child who loved to read. We have a library at home and she was asking for something to read and I told her "go get a book." She then said "but I have read them all." My husband and I then decided that we will take her to the library. It ended up being a weekly thing. We had other children later and the tradition continued. We didn't just go to one library we went to several (C. Blythe Andrews, Robert W. Saunders, and Seminole Heights). The library staff came to know my family well. I have 4 children, all are grown except for 1, she is in the 11th grade. Thank you for always being there for my children through the many years.

I have used Lutz Branch Library for years for my research and reading. I love this library, it's always friendly and helpful. I am homeschooled, and have won 1st in Florida History Day competition for Hillsborough 3 times consecutively and STEM Fair this past year. My latest project, headed to Tallahassee, is about The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps. These inspirational women had served from the 1940s to the 1970s across the globe, including our beloved home state of Florida. I'm truly blessed to have such a special location, as Lutz Branch guide my journey. Thank you for the memories through my childhood of reading here with my family, and continuous resources for my endeavours. My community library has enriched my life.

Norma - Bruton Memorial Library

I have been using the Bruton Memorial Library since I first moved to Florida in 1971. I have taken my children and now my grandchildren to check out books, use the computers, attend the many children events that have taken place over the years, and sometimes, just a quiet place to sit and read . I, myself, spent many hours studying for my college classes, and using the many resources available throughout the Hillsborough County library system. I have voted there for several years. I really believe that most people do not realize the real treasures our libraries can be to all of us!

Cornelius - John F. Germany Public Library

Our first visit to Tampa was during the Vietnam War. We stopped in Tampa, MacDill AFB for the night and continued to South Florida, Turkey Point. Fighter pilots were required to attend water survival training before heading to Southeast Asia and the war. I remember the John F. Germany library as we exited I-275 onto Ashley Boulevard. The only tall building then was First Florida and that library made a long-lasting impression. What a big library, and since I love libraries I was impressed that any city with one that large is a place to be. On my last tour overseas I asked to be assigned to an F-4 squadron at MacDill AFB. So in many ways, the library helped me decide to retire in Tampa.

I moved to New Tampa 2 years ago and I've been using the library ever since. I spend my days off work studying for my licensing exam in the library. I appreciate the quiet room which give me a space that I can concentrate without any distractions. I have to admit that at this point I'm obsessed with spending time in the library either studying, taking classes or bringing my son to the children's area. The staff is very attentive and cordial. My commute to work was previously long and boring. It didn't help that the same songs would play repeatedly on the radio. Enter the Library. The staff at the Lutz branch library helped introduce me to the incredible selection of audio books available at the branch. If a particular audio book was not available at my branch, I could still reserve it in the library system and it would be sent to my branch. It couldn't be easier! Now I really enjoy my commute to work, because it means I get to spend more time with the characters in the latest story I'm listening to. Thank you to all the incredible staff at the library for making my days extra bright and adventurous!

I remember going to the library as a family! It was the most special of nights. We would all walk in together and then disperse to each of our sections! My sisters and brother and I would head for the kids library and who knows where our parents were, ;). I remember to this day how I felt when I got my own library card and could check out my own books too. It was a wonderful feeling! Thanks for being there, I have been to many wonderful places and without you I wouldn't have these memories!

Growing up in poverty, my local library was always an escape for me. I could check out books and transport to amazing worlds that inspired me to continue dreaming and working toward those dreams. Today, I still find solace among the printed word, but more than that, all the fun classes and clubs and informational resources the Southshore library offers are truly invaluable and has now inspired my daughter to dream some lofty goals. We love our local library!

I started going to Baby Time by accident when I went to return some books with my 8 month old son and noticed the class was starting soon. Being a new mom I didn't have many friends and didn't get out of the house as much as I liked. Miss Janet was so welcoming we started to go to class every week and once my son turned 18 months, we started going to Toddler Time. We have both made many friends, learned fun songs and rhymes, and have made this story time as part of our weekly routine.

Michael and Bianca - Seffner-Mango Branch Library

When we moved to Seffner in 2015 my daughter Bianca was 1. She couldn’t talk yet. We have since made it a ritual to visit our library once per week. By the time she turned 2 she was not only speaking perfect English but reading. Now she’s 4 and reads at a second grade level. We have become regulars and our librarians always greet us with a smile. The people who saw my daughter reading at 2 years old were amazed and now even at 4 when she begins to read multi syllable and compound words and check out chapter books I’m constantly asked her age. We still, to this day, visit our local library weekly and there are times when she begins to read aloud that a small crowd of other kids tune in.

I would come to the library to study and do assignments for DCF Child Care. On some days I would be tired and a little stressed, and the ladies at the Ruskin Branch would always speak so kindly to me, and if I asked for help about printing or the password which I may have forgotten were not bothered. I've grown to love and appreciate them all: Isabel, Sharon, Margaret, Sylvia, and Cheryl! I earned my child care license and I am in the process of fulfilling my dream of working with children, especially at-risk children who need love and guidance. I thank the library staff for teaching me patience.

It has given me a place to go and relax and just envision all the knowledge that is in that building. I can get books in all sorts of forms but because of having arthritis really bad and find it difficult to hold a book, I am using eBooks. I came home from visiting the library, sat down in my recliner and listened to beautiful things. I know that this will be a place that I will be able to come as often as I want and learn, learn, learn.

Eric - West Tampa Branch Library

Even though my library card says that I've been a member since you folks started using that electronic system, I've actually been visiting numerous branches of the library here in Tampa for 50 years. When I was a kid I used to ride my bicycle to the West Tampa Branch or, if I was at my mom's office on Kennedy Blvd. in the summertime, I'd walk to the old Peninsula Branch (Charles Fendig these days, I think). I've spent hours and hours in the library. I was instilled with the love of reading and books by mom when I was very, very young. Not a day goes by that I'm not reading something. I had a personal library of over 15,000 editions up until recently, when I liquidated 3/5s of them. My books were taking over my home. All I really wanted to say is that I LOVE THE LIBRARY! You folks are the best. Keep up the great work. I hope to still be visiting for the next 45 years or so.

I like the library for many reasons. One of these is the incredible selection of materials that can be ordered via email and sometimes by using interlibrary loans. Another attribute of the public library system is the variety of those materials. There are movies, documentaries, music soundtracks, magazines, and books of fiction and expository books. Many of these books can be found on audio. And of course, all of these things are well organized and easy to access.

The library is a fun place to help you learn about the topics you like. I like the library because I can find the music I like to listen to on CD. It's good that a lot of the CD's are being put on hoopla. It's also fun to look for books of information. The library has a wide variety of events and activities. The library is a nice place to study.

We love the library! The Lutz Branch Library is our second home because the staff is so wonderful and friendly. They have helped us transform our lives by providing us with so many rich, wonderful educational materials. We love all the books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and the chess classes they provide. We also love the interlibrary loan, the hold system and the large number of items we can check out. We've been 'regulars' since we moved close to the library almost 20 years ago. We didn't realize it then but the library was one of the best perks to our new house.

The library has changed my life because I can get so many books there to read. I also like the library because it has my favorite movies. The library has events like chess class, building with Legos, and Star Wars. And it also has audiobooks. Also, the library has educational books. The librarians provide assistance if you need it.

I have loved books all of my life and seemed to have accumulated quite a library myself over the years. I became very ill a little over a year ago and moved to a retirement community. It was almost impossible to participate in the community activities. One thing that transformed my life was the BOOKMOBILE. I think I checked out ten books at a time - greatly expanding my horizons. I would like to say that sweetness, helpfulness and love I received from the librarians on the bus was amazing and very much appreciated! Love you all!

he Seminole Heights branch is a pleasant, well-equipped place to work. I bring my laptop here when I want to work in a 'third place,' i.e. not home, not work. The only thing that would make it better would be a cafe...however, that might cause the place to get too crowded :-) so I think I'll just continue making and bringing my own coffee in a thermal cup! Seriously, though, the personnel are all very helpful and pleasant. Oh, yes, and I also come here to fill my requests for books and DVDs. This is my neighborhood branch, I live a few blocks up the street, and I'm so glad I do.

I was referred to the library by another agency. I had been trying to find the final resting place of a friend who was killed in action in Korea on 8/11/1952 (P.F.C. Joe L. Stokes), I spoke to Janet who took all of the information that I had and told me she would see what she could find for me. She returned my call after a few hours and gave me important information. Janet was not only kind and courteous, but explained every detail of her search. The library should be very proud to have an employee like Janet. She was a pleasure to talk to and an asset to the public library. Thank you.

...One of my greatest eye opening experiences was at the Library... a remarkable place that you can to get help, to know useful information, visit English conversation clubs, you can get help with writing a resume, and help with taxes. Here you can find a lot of programs for children and adults. What surprised me the most that it is perfectly organized and absolutely free, and it has a very friendly atmosphere. At the library I feel more happy and confident... Never in my life have I met such open, friendly people, ready to help with any question. In conversation classes I also find people from my country (Ukraine) and are family friends now... the Library is a wonderful place to start and take social adaptation in new life. And I want to say Thank you to all who every day work in the Library and help people like me. You change the world for the best! Thank you!

Libraries, I now love them, but I never was very interested until I have a child. My daughter is 17 now, she was six, when we moved from Miami to Brandon. It has been twelve years. She want to move to this place where, we spend so many hours and days; for her different programs, reading summer classes and then my husband with the wonderful computers classes, that the library still offers for free! I`m not good in English, but because this practices and readings I been doing better. I know I have to work in my grammar. I'm an avid reader. I used to buy, read, and give away dozens of new books a year. Now that I'm retired and my income's reduced, I use your "app and hold" process to gain access to the best in new fiction and nonfiction and classics I missed - at no cost except for a bit of waiting time. Whether I'm second or 202 on a hold list, I eventually get the book I want. I also use the library as a fun destination for "my kids" as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem. Bottom line: I'm most appreciative of our county library system. It's a valuable asset.

This library has helped me in multiple ways!!!!
1) During high school, I used to come volunteer here at the Library so I could get my community service hours I needed for my 100% bright futures scholarship requirements.
2) Since the air conditioner did not work at home, I used to come study here. A nice, quiet and cool place to study.
3) I studied here for my dental school entrance exam. I did so well that I got accepted to and attended Columbia University Dental school and was dual-enrolled there for a master's degree as well!
4) As a dentist (back in FL), I came back here in order to study for my jurisprudence exam and get my coveted FL license!!!

Many years ago (in the early 50's) I moved from my hometown and life-long friends into a new and challenge environment. With a husband away from home Monday through Friday and three little boys in grade school, I lived a life of limited access to sociability. Then one day, the Bookmobile showed up, and presented an opportunity for recreation (I've been an avid reader since age five).
Time doesn't sit still and many years later I have become a senior citizen, living alone; I no longer drive. And once again the Bookmobile comes to the rescue!
Every three weeks, easy access to unlimited literature, and attentive, helpful assistance from Dè Shaun and Lisa! What more could you ask for?

Spence - Bloomingdale Regional Public Library

In 2006 I was on crutches for 10 weeks following Achilles tendon surgery. To get me out of the house, my wife suggested I take the life stories writing class being offered at the library. I did and was hooked. Since then I have heavily involved with the Bloomingdale Writers Connection. I facilitate the Travel Writing Group, have conducted several workshops on self-publishing and for the past five years have co-taught a life stories writing class. During the 10 years I have been involved I have self-published a book of my life stories and more than 30 photo books of my travels. Thank you Bloomingdale Regional Library and especially the Friends group for supporting live story writing.

I've always craved stories. As a kid, going to the library was as good as going to a candy store. I'd get lost in the shelves of books and gobble them up as fast as I could. That never changed. Today, I think libraries are vastly underused. They are such a great benefit to the communities that they serve. Through years of books and time spent studying in libraries, I now write books that end up on those very shelves, waiting for eager kids to gobble them up.

Cindy - Ruskin Branch Library

I joined the library book club after entering a new phase in my life. Reading books that I would not have selected and discussing them in detail with our group has opened the world of leisure reading for me. The book club members inspire me to read more. I have also participated in DIY Crafting meetings which are always a lot of fun, very creative and well administered. This week we made solar lights and another time, we decorated fancy small cakes. I attended two presentations this year: one about the Skyway Bridge anniversary, and another about Ruskin's history and document preservation project. I participated in a Tai Chi class too. The library is a wonderful neighborhood resource!

Sarah - New Tampa Regional Library

The New Tampa Library is by far my family's favorite! Thanks to the new re-design of the library and the addition of the study station stations with the white boards, I was able to have an "aha" moment with my son. This was our first year homeschooling due to academic difficulties and one day we were using the white boards for math (a subject he has always struggled severely in). I had him telling me what to do, and I was writing the steps down on the board as he instructed me and he flew right through the lesson! This was a huge breakthrough! This was able to tell me that the information is in his head, but he just has a hard time transferring that information into written form. Thank you!

The library is a great place to go to find books. Before I started going to public libraries, I went to my school library. Then I realized that the book I needed was at the Brandon Library. Ever since I was a child, I loved reading books. Our community had a Bookmobile which I attended regularly. I brought home 10 books every event. Being an 'only child', I was able to escape in my imagination to excitement in other lands, fantasy, Alice in Wonderland and classics: Hawaii. I never stopped going to libraries. Now there is everything imaginable. This led me to my college choice of Liberal Arts. Shakespeare was the most intriguing story of human behavior. I can thank libraries and the people who are so talented and knowledgeable. They can find everything. I admire them greatly. Thank you Hillsborough County.

I absolutely love and appreciate my local library. It's within walking distance of my house and I can easily get anything I need there. My favorite thing to do is find names of many books I want to read and put them all on hold. As they're available, I get convenient texts letting me know I can pick them up. In this way, I can read anything I want. I also take advantage of toddler story times that are available for small children. It's great to have free, indoor activities to brig toddlers too. I'm so thankful for the library!

I moved to the New Tampa just a bit over two years ago although I had a vacation home in Florida for many years. Upon moving to the Tampa area, I began to use the New Tampa library. Despite the well-known lack of resources and money for public schools and many of the publicly funded universities in state, the library system is quite superb and the county and the state need to be congratulated for providing such excellent resources. I am in the library often to borrow children's books for my grandchildren, books for my own reading, CDs and DVDs. I am always amazed by the number of people in the library, studying, meeting with tutors or using the computer facilities. Keep up the great work.

I LOVE the library! I love to read. I used to purchase books but stopped that years ago when I realized I had an abundance of books and did not want them anymore. I have read thousands of books through these long years, all through my local library. I LOVE reserving the books I want from all over Hillsborough and picking them up in Thonotosassa and Seffner. I just want to thank you for the Films on Demand. I'm trying to learn about Art History on my own (using a text and workbook I bought at the library bookstore). I have found so many Videos on Demand that pertain to the subjects I'm studying. So far I've seen videos about the cave paintings in France and Spain, and today it is Sumerian art. I use so much of the library's assets. I check out books, use interlibrary loan, check out ebooks and audiobooks, I use Zinio. And now I've discovered the Videos on Demand. I've told people over and over that I have the best library system in the country, and you keep proving it. Thanks you so much.

She not only advised my card was still valid & until when, she then proactively started telling me about e-books etc., when I advised that was why I was inquiring she then gave me a tutorial on the library website & informed me of all I could do w/ my card & the different area's I may be interested in. I am a corporate trainer w/ a specialty in customer service training & CANNOT begin to say how impressed I was w/ Lisa and I am not one easily impressed as I often customer service lacking by most. Lisa blew me away!!!

I suffered a medical emergency and ended up in the hospital. I am not a big TV watcher, so there was little to keep my mind off of the situation or to help me relax. I realized I had my smartphone...and headphones. During my hospital stay I borrowed audiobooks from Overdrive and movies from Hoopla. No need to call someone to bring items. An entire library of books, movies, music, magazines, right there for me to use any time I wanted. Even after the dreaded 2 AM blood-draw. Thanks for being my safe space.

I love the Temple Terrace Library. It's close to home. And I love the fact that they have thousands upon thousands of classic dvds and vhs that you can check out and renew. I have found countless movies (both classic and recent) through the Hillsborough County Public Library Circuit...and I typically choose this route over going to Redbox or Netflix. Sure, it's a bit of extra effort...but I'm guaranteed to get the movies that I want - EVERYTIME!

The Charles J. Fendig Library has always hosted a diverse assortment of characters ranging in ethnicity, age, and lifestyle. I find this pleasantly amusing as I people watch and try to study. I am thankful that there is a place for me to get onto the internet and continue my education because my computer has finally ceased to power up :'( Lastly, the selection of books and other media is also surprising at times and exciting. My favorite find was "Princesses Behaving Badly". Whoever selects the titles for this branch is doing a great job! Thanks for always being there... between 10am and 6pm! :)

My grandmother, who lived with us, but did not know how to drive would take us into downtown Tampa using public transportation. My siblings and I would spend the day having many adventures with our grandmother. In addition to having lunch with her at CJs sandwich shop, we would stop at the post office to add to her stamp collection, visit the art museum and do some shopping, but my favorite stop was the public library. We did not have much extra money so being able to check out young adult books as a teenager helped fuel my love of reading. I am a reading teacher today thanks in part to the John F. Germany Library and I continue to enjoy checking out book and videos at the library.

I grew up here in Tampa... my mother was in the first graduating class of Chamberlain High School, across the street from the North Tampa Branch Library. She taught me my love of books which empowered me to travel the world with many favorites and some brand new authors' vivid characters. I had a heart attack about ten years ago followed by depression and heartache... but I knew I was getting well when I could visit the library and find a book to enjoy!
I love the new building... thank you for all the programs The Friends of Library provide. My daughter, her grandpa and I enjoy them all.

I use 4 libraries regularly according to my planned activities. I compile and submit my weekly news in a clean, quiet and safe environment. I love the friendly, helpful staff. I write the column, News from Progress Village by Gloria, in the Florida Sentinel Bulletin Community Newspaper. I also visit C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. Library, Riverview Library, and Brandon Library on Sundays. I appreciate the available free services provided along with activities and events, I keep you in the Florida Sentinel next to my column. I believe in you and the supporters. Thank you!

I just want to thank the library staff for going above and beyond with Interlibrary Loan. I've been learning Dutch for about two years now and have been having a hard time finding reading material. Well, last month I found an old beginning reader in Dutch, of which there was only two or three copies in libraries in the U.S. I didn't have much hope of being able to acquire a copy, but through the Interlibrary Loan system, I had the book within two weeks. I'm so grateful for not only the books in our county system, but also the huge added benefit of Interlibrary Loan that opens new doors. Thanks, Hillsborough County libraries!

Thanks to the Art Programs at the SouthShore Regional Library (Laurie, Arts Coordinator) creativity pours out from my iPhone, colored pencils, watercolors, charcoal, ceramics and a rainbow of ultra-fine point Sharpies. The Adult Writing Workshop (Frank, Elizabeth and Gina, Facilitators) eased my transition from technical writing to more soulful forms of expression such as memoir pieces and poetry that have been published.
The photo, RC Does Halloween, was awarded Best of Show at the 2014 Hillsborough County Fair. It started with an art class - Monochromatic Watercolors - with artist, Arthur.
Every event is an open door to a new opportunity.

Eric - West Tampa Branch Library

I've been visiting the West Tampa branch of the library since I was a little boy. I originally went there with my mom, but when I was 11 or 12, I could ride my bicycle there. It was a different time and world back then (late 60s/early 70s). I still remember the old one room library up the tall flight of stairs on the east side of the current building.
My mom had a business on Kennedy Blvd back then. She would pick me up after school and take me to what was then known as the Peninsula branch (Charles Fendig currently) on Neptune and Church St where I could sit and read till about 5:30PM when she would come to get me and take me home.
I love my library!

he public library is such a gift to our community. I personally love having a place to get new books to read for myself and my elementary school aged son. Being able to put a book on hold or download it digitally is so convenient and we have attended and enjoyed a variety of library programs since my kids were babies. Our world would be a lesser place without our public libraries!

I like going to the library because the people are helpful. On Sundays, I am learning to read and write with my tutor, Flo Stein. Flo is a good teacher. My husband and I bring our laptops to use the internet and play games.

I usually get DVDs and books for my job. My little ones enjoy exploring the variety of books I bring in to enhance my lesson plans. Reading area is their favorite center.

My kids had a lot of fun during our library's summer program. They are especially excited about the Dinosaur World tickets! They are always asking when we are going next, and enjoy browsing the catalogue to find out what treasures they can check out next. We also enjoy the many activities available such as Crafternoons, Storytelling and (when we can make it) the game afternoons.

My parents instilled me with a great love for reading, and trips to the library were a big part of that. My dad would often take me there after dinner, as a special treat. Heading our separate ways, we'd meet at the circulation desk right before closing to check out our selections, and on the way home, I’d read all the back covers aloud to him.
This year, the memoir I wrote about caring for my parents was made part of our County Library’s permanent collection. My first thought, when learning the news, was how much joy it would have given my mom and dad, just knowing their “kid” has a book on the shelves.

Stephen - Bloomingdale Regional Library

My story is about how I returned to my local library after I had sold my own library and stopped buying books. My old reading habits were that I would leap from buying book after book before finishing the first one. My library was beginning to own me, instead of me owning it. Ironically, I read more now than I did while in graduate school, and my tastes have increased in titles that are full of odd literatures, literatures that I can request through my branch via the glorious ILL (Inter Library Loans). When the books arrive, it is free candy for my mind. I'm so thankful for ILL.

Bernadette - New Tampa Regional Library

Reading has always been a good friend to me. Over 10 years ago, I read an article about the Hillsborough Literacy program offered through the library, and because I was eager to share my love of reading with others, I signed up, took the course and have been teaching since then. I am not a teacher by profession, but I take my volunteering seriously, and with the help of the large number of books available in the library system as well as the help of the library and Literacy staff, I feel that I have made a positive difference for someone who wanted to be able to "read better".

Leon - James J. Lunsford Law Library

Well now, not long ago (2014) I found myself in serious trouble with the law. So with this new Case I was broke couldn't afford an attorney and didn't want to use a Public Defender. When I entered the Law Library I was immediately received by Mrs. Norma (whom would become to be my God Mother today) and Mr. Bill (a down to earth gentleman). Being they were the Law Library Clerks, I felt a warmth of mental support; which made it easier to effectively study law. (These two always kept a priceless respect for me and other patrons). The result proved to be victorious. I developed my legal strategy, pro se, and beat all my cases. I'm free, thanks to Mr. Bill and Mrs. Norma's unbiased support. Love.

I have always loved libraries! When my daughter was born, I would go to the library, and read magazines while she slept beside me in her car seat. When she was 1, we started attending baby story time with Miss Susan. Some of my daughter's friends today are from meeting at story time! We later graduated to toddler story time with Mr. Frank. Today my daughter is 10, but we still enjoy coming to the library to read and relax. It is a family tradition that I hope will continue until she is grown. Thank you!

I have loved going to the library since I was a child. Upon moving to Tampa a few years ago I was so excited that I lived so close to the New Tampa Regional Library! While I do not go out there too often, I absolutely loved finding out that I could rent books via the Overdrive app! It has been a lifesaver for my bank account! I am not longer spending lots of money via the kindle and I can check out books all the time! I love reading and so this has been awesome. There are audio books as well. Even some movies! Then when I want to go to the physical branch, it is so peaceful and the staff has been wonderful!

Thank you so much for your summer reading program and events! We are a military family and new to the area. With the kids off of school, and my husband traveling overseas a lot for work, we have been trying to stay busy. Several times a week, we have found ourselves at the library. My kids enjoyed so many of the events. Thank you for offering such a great selection of programs. I am grateful to watch my children learn, play and be carefree while spending time at our local libraries!

I have been a patron of a public library since I was a little girl and I have always been an avid reader. As a Kindergarten teacher, my reading time is often consumed with professional literature and lesson planning. Through the years I have found less and less time to read for enjoyment. About 7 years ago I discovered audio books at a Hillsborough County Public Library, and my life as a reader has never been the same. I have access to a great selection of genres to keep my car well stocked with audio books. I have a 30-40 minute commute to my school. During my daily drive, I am once again whisked away to imaginary worlds as I listen to books on CD. Because of HCPL I have found an antidote to my problem of never having enough time to read for pleasure. I am more complete in my personal life and feel more creative in my teaching career.

Hillsborough County library has proved exceedingly valuable as I eased my way into retirement. I have been able to take advantage of their ever-expanding enrichment programs such as flower arranging, paper crafting, and cooking easy to prepare meals. The three-session program ranging from the origin of, processing of and brewing of tea was quite educational. There is more to tea than the bagged tea! Another major benefit of the library is their extensive eBook library and the highly qualified technical support that is offered. Monthly emails announcing newly acquired books, keep me up to date on new offerings. Books can be requested. In all cases, they have been acquired by the library in my requested eBook format. Finally, the book clubs are excellent. Discussing books with people of diverse backgrounds sheds new light on the monthly book. The services provided far exceed what was available to me in Pennsylvania.

I have been using the library since 1946 when they had bankers’ hours and were not open on Saturdays, now the library is open 24 hours a day. I very seldom check out books, except books for the children that I tutor. Through the library, I learned about an online program called Duolingo and I am learning Spanish.

Kalena - 78th Street Community Library

Being a librarian's daughter, I spent most of my time with her at her job, which was first at the 78th Street Library. I knew how to read already, but since my mother took up her job, my interest in this activity became enhanced. I started reading more for fun, not just to learn how to read. I felt that I was able to expand my imagination.
Being around so many books allowed me to discover new books and new authors to share with my family and friends. It let me join cool programs like Battle of The Books. It also helped me to learn more. I learned about the world around me at an early age, and I continue to learn, not just because I have to, but because I want to.
I finally found my voice in the Storytelling Program. Being young, I had that natural stage fright. As I worked with the other librarians, I honed my talent for storytelling and was also able to progress in the acting world at school.
At the cost of sounding like a children’s sitcom- Knowledge is power, and reading is fun. You never really know how much you know until you try it.
